Aquatech was opened in November of 1996 by Larry Babcock.

Larry saw that the tri-state area needed a complete dive shop that ran trips, filled cylinders, serviced equipment, and had a full line of inventory in stock.

He then looked at the training that was available and also how the divers were being trained. He constructed his training center to fit all divers' needs, regardless of whether they wanted to see pretty fish on a 20 ft. reef in tropical waters or explore deep ship wrecks and underwater caves.

Then, Larry looked at the instructors that were teaching scuba and found a lot of inconsistency in the way they taught. He decided to open his own instructor training facility where he could train his instructors to meet his ideology, and that of SSI, on how a diver should be trained.

Larry wanted his students to be comfortable in the water, and be able to protect the precious reefs of the world with good buoyancy control and good skills.

He also felt to be an instructor you should have enough respect for yourself and your students to keep a level of physical fitness to be able to deal with the student's needs in all types of environments and conditions. (Ex: currents, rough seas, poor visibility, etc.)

In September of 2007, he moved his shop to a a bigger location where he could service his customers better. Wanting his customers to have the best equipment available, he tested various types of equipment in all different types of environments to see how it held up in those conditions.
